Clericalism has nothing to do with the number of the ordained serving the Church, or even in what capacities they serve outside those reserved for priests.
Clericalism flourishes when deference is rendered to a comportment of superiority, assumed privilege and feigned omnipotence by the clergy class. This is particularly evident today amongst those of the ordained priesthood who find themselves by their own estimation above the Magisterium of the Church, who believe themselves to be the arbiter of reality and expect not to be questioned.
Accountability forsaken, who, what, is to restrain the unbridled ego?
No matter how many of the laity are crawling around in significant positions, as long as the likes of Jorge Mario Bergoglio and his minion are throwing their weight around clericalism will have a safe haven. A mighty safe haven.
