It seems that this case against Cardinal Cipriani was not the first such modus operandi by Pope Francis. Some years ago, a man from Granada wrote him a letter accusing some priests of the diocese of sexual abuse. The Archbishop of Granada postrated himself before the altar of the Cathedral. The case was investigated by the Spanish Civil Guard, and of the six accused the Police found one of them to be brought before a Court. When the case was heard by a judge, the accuser was ordered to pay 60,000 euros fine and pay the cost of the case. There are other cases in which Pope Francis has proceeded in in a similar fashion, one of them being teacher and member of the Opus Dei.
Does Pope Francis realize that believing such accusations against priests which turned out to be false, is a very serious matter? Surely, in the Granada case, should he not have sent a letter to the accuser telling him to take the case to the Police and maintained the good name of these priests from Granada, or shouldn't the Archbishop of Granada to advise the accuser to report the case to the Police?

Dear Mr. Gagliarducci,

I offer a correction to your post.

The founder of the Emmanuel Community, Pierre Goursat, was just declared venerable:

https://www.causesanti.va/it/notizie/notizie-2024/promulgazione-decreti-18-dicembre-2024.html

Céline Hoyeau in her book Traison des Peres speaks about the Beatitudes, The Community of Saint Jean and others, but these are separate from the Emmanuel Community.

The suppression of the Sodalitium stands in stark contrast to recent practice, viz. the Legion of Christ, the Emmanuel Communities in France, or the l’Arche Communities in Canada, all of which had founders who turned out to be abusers. They aren’t the only ones. Are there nuances we are not aware of? If so, these reasons should be communicated and explained.

God bless you,

-Father Andrew

There is a mistake in the paper : none of the founders of the Emmanuel community in France has commited abuses. The founder, Pierre Goursat, was recently proclaimed venerable.
